Microvascular surgery involves the use of a surgical microscope and micro instruments to repair damaged neurovascular structures.

Nerve Injury

Nerves control both muscle and sensation (feeling). Therefore, injury to nerves may affect the ability to move joints or feel objects. A thorough physical examination and advanced studies such as x-rays, ultrasounds, and nerve studies may be helpful in formulating a treatment plan specific to each patient.

Replantation & Vascular Injury

Damage to blood vessels may be due to partial or complete amputations, from table saw or knife injuries, for example. Artery and vein injuries may also occur with repetitive trauma such as work-related hammering with the palm. Other vascular disorders are due to aging, smoking, and autoimmune diseases.
